Third Grade Vocabulary for Quiz:
Heat: a type of energy that flows from one object to another.
More Heat=faster molecules
Less Heat=slower molecules
Heat moves from a hotter object to a colder object.
Conduction: Heat traveling between objects that are directly touching.
Convection: Heat traveling through liquids and gases. Hot Fluids rise up and Cold fluids go down.
Radiation: Heat travels through empty space. Heat without touching!!

Week of May:
Third/Fourth Grade:
Wrapping up all standards. Review and prep for next year.
Week April 8-12:
Third Grade:
Students will continue their human body systems unit and how they are essential for life: protection, movement, and support. Students will focus on the different functions of the skeletal and muscular systems. This unit will cover why skin is necessary for protection and for the body to remain healthy. Students will learn new vocabulary and do hands-on experiments to further comprehension.
Fourth Grade:
Students will continue their nutrition unit learning about the benefits of food, vitamins, minerals, and exercise. They will learn how each contributes to survival, for growth, repair, and energy for our bodies. The role of each in maintaining a healthy body. Students will learn new vocabulary and activities to further comprehension.
Students will next start their Animal Adaption/Behavior Unit.
Week March 18-22:
Third Grade:
Students will wrap up their solar system unit. Students have completed their Planet books to learn specific details about the eight different planets in our Solar system. We will work on experiments with creating shadows. Reviewing vocabulary to complete this unit.
Fourth Grade:
Students will spiral review skills from past units standards this week. Students will discuss and work in groups to actively engage in quality review. Game review competition as well!
Week Mar.11-15:
Third Grade:
Students will continue to work on their Earth/moon/Sun System unit. Students are working on their in class Planet Book to learn facts about each planet in our Solar system. Students will work on experiments to learn to recognize that shadows are created by objects blocking the light. We will review vocabulary to help with the comprehension of this unit.
Fourth Grade:
Students will continue working on their Moon phase unit. Students are learning vocabulary for this unit. They will do experiments to explain the causes of day and night and the phases of the moon. They will learn that day and night changes are caused by the Earth's rotation on its axis. They will learn that the monthly changes to the Moon's appearance is based on the moon's orbit around the Earth.
Students will track the moon's changes this week.
Week of Mar. 4-Mar.8:
Third Grade:
Students will begin working their Earth/Moon/Sun system unit. Students will learn about Earth's place as the third planet from the sun in our Solar System. Students will learn to recognize that shadows are created by objects blocking the light. The Earth rotates on its axis and revolves around the Sun.
Fourth Grade:
Students will begin working on their Moon phase unit. In this unit, students will learn about the causes of day and night and the phases of the moon. They will learn that day and night changes are caused by the Earth's rotation on its axis. They will learn that the monthly changes to the Moon's appearance is based on the moon's orbit around the Earth.
Week of Jan.22-25:
Third Grade:
Students will be wrapping this short unit learning about heat energy transfer. Students will learn to recognize that energy can be transferred from a warmer object to a cooler one by contact, at a distance, or by rubbing them against each other then the cooler object gets warmer. Convection, Conduction, Friction, and Radiation. We will work this week on identifying situations of each type of transfer. Example-touching a metal spoon in a bowl of soup-conduction.
Fourth Grade
Students will continue working reviewing Forms of Energy unit. We will dig deeper into light energy and make our way into Electricity and Magnets. Students will work daily in their interactive notebooks in class.
Week of Jan 7-11:

Convection, Conduction, Friction, and Radiation.
Fourth Grade
Students will continue working reviewing Forms of Energy unit. We will investigate each form and identify examples. Students will participate in hands-on experiments to help in identifying these forms. Students will dig deeper with light energy. Students will work daily in their interactive notebooks in class.
Week of Oct. 29-Nov.2:
Third Grade:
Students will continue working on their Force and Motion unit. They will practicing with identifying various types of Forces and motions. They will participate in hands-on experiments to help with identifying these types. They will continue to work daily in their interactive notebooks in class.

Week of Oct.22-26:
Third Grade:
Students will begin working on Force and Motion unit. They will learn about the relationship between force and motion. Students will participate in hands-on experiments to learn key vocabulary-friction, acceleration, velocity, gravity, etc..
Fourth Grade:
Students will begin working on the Forms of Energy unit. This unit will cover 5 forms of energy-Mechanical, Electrical, Light, Thermal(Heat), Sound. We will work with hands-on experiments to further investigate light and electrical energy.
Week of Sept 10-14:
Third Grade:
Students are working on wrapping up our Matter unit. They have learned about the states of matter-solids, liquids, and gases. They have learned about the changing phases of matter-physical and chemical changes. Freezing, melting, evaporation, and condensation. We had a hands-on experiment of making ice cream in a bag to see the changing phases of matter. We worked on identifying the physical properties of matter. We used a pineapple to identify these properties. We will have our final unit test on Sept. 11.
Fourth Grade:
Students are working on wrapping up our rocks and minerals unit. We have learned the difference between rocks and minerals. Students should be able to identify the characteristics of the three types of rocks-Igneous, Metamorphic, and Sedimentary.
The rock cycle and how each rock is formed and can turn into any other rock based on specific geological conditions.
Our final unit exam will be on Sept 11.
